Dexter® plays a unique role in a system of training proven to produce proficiency in bronchoscopic manipulation in novices of all aptitudes. Most novices achieve a proficient standard after 2-3 hours of distributed practice with 100% achieving the standard by 5 hours.
These bench skills transfer to the clinical environment in 94% of novices and persist in the medium term with or without subsequent bronchoscopic exposure. Patients are spared the novice learning curve.
Dexter consists of a model, a training manual and an image chart
Bronchoscopy Training Model - Part Task Trainer
Dexter is a modular non-anatomic model that consists of a series of channels, pods and images. Model configuration, image position and complexity can be altered as required. The basic objective is to navigate a chosen configuration, locate images endoscopically, find them on the image chart and then record their position on a map.
Endoscopic Dexterity Training Manual - Dexter is more than a model
The manual provides a structured educational course in endoscopic manipulation that guides the use of the model. Each module has specific learning objectives e.g optical skills, mechanical skills, navigation, measurement and standing infront or behind the patient. The modules increase in complexity but are stimulating and fun and encourage self-tuition and practice.
